After a failed launch Square is struggling to rebuild their latest MMO Final Fantasy XIV. I was in beta and to the behest of my friends, I predicted a dire outcome for the game early on. It was easy to see unless your love for the franchise prevented you from seeing the truth which for a handful it did. My motto has always been hope for the best but prepare for the worst and though many were calling me a negative Nancy, those critics were quickly silenced when the launch failed miserably.
After giving FFXIV some time apart and keeping tabs on the new director's letters, I've decided to jump back into the game and experience the patches as they roll out. I'm a long time ffxiv gil fan and MMO player so I hope they can turn things around but at times that mountain seems too steep to climb. So many bad game mechanics and grindy gameplay that it's difficult to see how they can completely revamp an MMO but I tip my hat to them for doing just that. As of right now Square is not charging a subscription and I doubt that will be the case for at least a year.
So how am I keeping myself busy? Right now my routine is to long in maybe level a new job, knockout some guidleves (quests) and manage my bazaar. There are a few things that I do love about the game. Once you get past the level 1 leves, the quests can be a challenge to complete solo. I've had some intense battles that I've enjoyed especially when the mob runs and suddenly you're surrounded by angry friends of his.
